Stone Foundation is one of the most solid and respected acts on the contemporary British soul and rhythm & blues scene. Hailing from the Midlands and led by Neil Jones and Neil Sheasby, the band has spent over two decades perfecting a sound that pays homage to Northern Soul and funk classics, but with a thoroughly modern lyrical sensibility and production. Their music is characterized by vibrant horn sections, deep bass lines, and an emotional honesty that has allowed them to connect with multiple generations of black music fans.
The big qualitative and popularity leap for the group came in the mid-2010s, largely thanks to their close collaboration with legend Paul Weller. This relationship not only resulted in joint productions, like the acclaimed album Street Rituals, but also established Stone Foundation as the spiritual heirs to the style and sophistication of the mod movement and British soul. Throughout their extensive discography, they have demonstrated an admirable ability to evolve, incorporating jazz nuances and orchestral arrangements without ever losing that inherent optimism and communal spirit that defines their live performances.
Despite changes in the industry, Stone Foundation remains an independent and hardworking entity, known for its band ethic and commitment to musical quality. They have collaborated with icons like Nolan Porter, Graham Parker, and Bettye LaVette, which demonstrates the respect they inspire among their peers on both sides of the Atlantic. In short, they are much more than a genre band; they are urban storytellers who use the groove as a vehicle to deliver messages of hope and unity.
