Composer, arranger, but above all a virtuoso singer, Michael Mayo is the third vocalist in history to be accepted into the famous Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Performance (now renamed Herbie Hancock) in the program's 20-year existence. Heard and/or seen alongside Ben Wendel, Scary Pockets, Kneebody, Gretchen Parlato, Christian Sands, etc., his creativity and impeccable technique have been unanimously appreciated by his peers. He has even had the opportunity to accompany his mentor, Herbie Hancock, on tour. At just 29 years old, the American singer fascinates, moving with ease from a disconcerting interpretation of standards in a big band or a reduced ensemble, to his own experimental compositions where we hear this fan of the loop pedal putting technology to use for the benefit of improvisation. FLY, the highly anticipated follow-up from Michael Mayo after his acclaimed debut album, delves into jazz, allowing his previous collaborations with his mentor Herbie Hancock, producer Eli Wolf, and Scary Pockets (among others) to flourish in a mix of well-known jazz classic covers and bold, daring originals. Demonstrating his remarkable versatility and exceptional talent, backed by an all-star band that includes pianist Shai Maestro, bassist Linda May Han Oh, and drummer Nate Smith, Fly solidifies his prowess in the jazz world, allowing his unique artistry to shine with its own light. Soul, jazz, r&b, and hip-hop where Michael Mayo confirms he has one of the most talented and multifaceted voices of his generation. Michael Mayo: Singer, Andrew Freedman: Keys + Piano, Robin Baytas: Drums, Kyle Miles: Bass
