“It doesn’t happen to me often to be surprised by recordings of musicians like it happened to me the first time I heard Antonio Faraò. There is so much warmth, conviction, and energy in his way of playing. I was immediately drawn to his harmonic conception, the joy of his rhythms and his sense of swing, as well as the grace and purity of his improvised melodic lines. Antonio is a great pianist.
— Herbie Hancock
Antonio Faraò is not just a musician of extraordinary talent: he is an authentic standout figure in international jazz and an essential reference in contemporary European jazz. Praised by Herbie Hancock, he has collaborated with top-level artists such as Joe Lovano, Didier Lockwood, Miroslav Vitous, Jack DeJohnette, Chris Potter, Benny Golson, Ivan Lins, and many others, undoubtedly confirming his place among European musicians who have reached an expressive level comparable to that of the great American masters.
His style is unmistakable: brilliant technique united with an impetuous emotional charge, a notable compositional vein, and an overwhelming rhythmic sense that make each of his performances a unique experience. In 1998, he receives the prestigious first prize at the Martial Solal International Jazz Piano Competition in the City of Paris, a recognition that projects him more forcefully into the European circuits of contemporary music and leads him to record, after several albums produced in Italy, different albums as a leader for the important German label Enja Records, including Black Inside (1998) with Jeff “Tain” Watts and Ira Coleman, and Thorn (2001), in which he is accompanied by Jack DeJohnette, Chris Potter, and Drew Gress.
Antonio Faraò has been invited several times by Herbie Hancock to participate in International Jazz Day, the worldwide jazz event organized by UNESCO and the United Nations, alongside Branford Marsalis, Kurt Elling, Wayne Shorter, Marcus Miller, Al Jarreau, and many others. In his album Eklektik, he also invites world-famous artists like Snoop Dogg, Marcus Miller, and Bireli Lagrène, demonstrating once again his ability to fuse tradition, innovation, and different stylistic influences.
With a career marked by awards, prestigious collaborations, and internationally acclaimed albums, Antonio Faraò confirms his role as an ambassador of a European style at the pinnacle of the global jazz scene, turning every note into an intense, authentic, and unforgettable experience.”
