Guitarist and founder of Black Pumas, architect of modern psychedelic soul
Adventurous musician, guitarist, and producer, Adrian Quesada is one of the most influential figures in contemporary sound. Grammy winner and Oscar nominee, he is globally recognized as the co-founder of Black Pumas, the band with which he revolutionized modern psychedelic soul. Their 2019 self-titled debut, which included the hit "Colors," reached number 1 on AAA radio and earned them seven Grammy nominations, including Album and Record of the Year. This meteoric rise led the band to sell-out tours around the world, perform at President Biden's inauguration, and appear on shows like The Tonight Show and Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
A Texan with deep roots, Quesada's career is a bridge between funk, soul, and psychedelia. After the success of Black Pumas, he released the acclaimed solo albums Boleros Psicodélicos and Jaguar Sound, collaborating with artists like iLe, Gaby Moreno, and Money Mark. In 2023, he returned with the band's second album, Chronicles of a Diamond, earning a 2024 Grammy nomination for "More Than a Love Song," a year in which he also won a Latin Grammy for his work with Diamante Eléctrico.
His versatility has also taken him to the cinema, receiving an Oscar nomination in 2025 for the song “Like a Bird” from the film Sing Sing. Prolific by nature, Quesada has collaborated with legends like Prince, Los Lobos, and GZA (Wu-Tang Clan), in addition to being part of projects like Grupo Fantasma, Brownout, and Ocote Soul Sounds. Currently, he balances the announcement of his new album, Boleros Psicodélicos II, with managing his studio Electric Deluxe Recorders in Austin, establishing himself as an essential sonic architect of our era.
