Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, the singer and songwriter delivers a vibrant, danceable, and artistically elegant performance in every one of her shows. Her songs are inspired by ancient Southern blues traditions, while her lyrics also critique fake news and celebrate the pride of being a woman.
Throughout her career, she has been compared to soul legends such as Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin, and Nina Simone. She has just released her highly anticipated debut album, Beautiful Dreams, which reached No. 3 on the UK Official Jazz & Blues Albums Chart and received widespread critical acclaim from the music press, including Blues & Soul, Echoes Magazine, Relix, American Songwriter, and many others. She also earned praise from Craig Charles (BBC 6 Music Funk & Soul Show), who described Acantha as “brilliant… an independent artist destined to take over the world.”
Her music has surpassed 2 million streams and has been featured on major Spotify playlists, including a spot on Spotify’s Best Retro Songs of 2021 and Best Funk Songs of 2022 playlists.
Her song “Gonna Be All Right” was included on the album Got Soul by Robert Randolph & The Family Band, a nominee for the 2017 Grammy Awards. She made her debut with the EP Sugar Woman, released in August 2021, earning the New Artist of the Year award at the Soul Tracks Readers’ Choice Awards.
She also stood out for her performance on CBS Saturday Morning on May 13, 2023, and has accumulated more than ten million views across social media with her series “Standing On The Shoulders of… Soul.”
